This month, read about GROOTS Tetu--one of the only groups responding to AIDS in this mountainous region of central Kenya.
A guiding principle of the AFRUS-AIDS Partnership is that grassroots women and men responding to AIDS in their communities ought to be able to speak for themselves, from their lived experiences, at conferences and other policy-making venues, rather than having "experts" speak for them.
For this reason, the AFRUS Partners as often as possible sponsor a grassroots delegation to attend a variety of AIDS-related conferences and events. Reports of these events can be found here.

The theme of last year's ICASA, held in Abuja, Nigeria, was "AIDS and the Family." The Huairou Commission's activities at ICASA were co-sponsored by the AFRUS-AIDS Partners, and locally hosted by the International Women Communication Center, Nigeria. December 4-9, 2005.
