Home-Based Caregivers at the YWCA International Women's Summit: Women's Leadership on HIV/AIDS

Nairobi, Kenya, July 4-7, 2007

Through home-based care, grassroots women across Africa are leading holistic responses to HIV/AIDS in their communities. Coping with AIDS on a daily basis, they are clear that HIV is not just a health issue. It encompasses all aspects of daily life - access to basic services (including water, sanitation and transportation), livelihoods, food security, land and inheritance rights and governance.

The YWCA International Women’s Summit is a key venue to explore the many challenges women face as they cope with the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and the solutions they are creating to deal with those challenges. The Huairou Commission, in together with the AFRUS-AIDS Partnership, will anchor the participation of grassroots women within the International Women’s Summit. It particularly focuses on bringing together home-based caregivers from across Africa and the Global South, consolidating the Home-Based Care Alliance and raising the recognition of caregivers as a vital stake holding constituency in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

We invite you to join us in our activities:
